Perfect for school-aged students and adults alike, this interactive class offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about the incredible journey from fleece to finished product. Plus, you’ll meet our adorable alpacas and see why their fleece is one of nature’s most versatile and sustainable fibers.
Meet the Alpacas & Collect the Fleece
Start with a visit to our alpaca pastures, where you’ll get to meet our friendly and curious alpacas! During this portion of the class, you’ll learn about alpacas’ unique qualities, their care, and how their fleece is harvested during annual shearing. We’ll even demonstrate the process so you can see firsthand how this incredibly soft fiber begins its journey.
Learn the Fiber Processing Basics
From raw fleece to finished product, this class takes you through each step of the process. You’ll explore how fleece is washed, carded, and prepared for spinning into yarn. With a live demonstration and hands-on experience, you’ll try your hand at basic fiber preparation techniques. Watch as we spin raw fleece into yarn using our Kromski spinning wheel, which is also available in our Alpaca Gift Shop. You’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for the skill and artistry behind alpaca products!
